Trying to make the jump to Unraid, but some issues arises

Featured Replies

Hi,

As stated, doing a test run to check out unraid since i have read many goood things about it.

The server is speced with a i7 9700k, 32gb ram

However my first impression is thats its rather useless, and hope that its me doing something wrong and not the product, the issues i'm facing are:

1. PERFORMANCE, seems unraid can't multitask at all... a simple copy job, makes even plex and emby stop responding...    the same if i for an instance is doing a library scan, everything else slows down to the unusable state... Is this normal??  if nzbget is downloading anything, the box is rather useless.

2. Plex, i keep getting corrupt databases, and plex dosn't survive more than 24H tops... usually only a couple of houers... any fixes for this?

3. Hardware decoding...  /dev/dri refuses to showup, i guess this might be because of old kernel in unraid and zero support for newer intel gpu's. Will there be an update to this in the near future? Is this problem solved in the "next" release?

If anyone, in general, got any tips on the multitasking performance, it would be much appriciated. the hardware certainly should be more than capable...

1 and 2. These are issues for some people on latest. Fixes being tested and will be released soon. You might try going back to 6.6.7

I'm running an I7 6700 and its been rock solid there must be some settings that are off or set wrong I can run multiple streams on plex and run 10 active dockers, don't give up just yet when you sort it out I think your gonna like it and support here is the best I've ever experience from basically an all volunteer group

The iGPU in the 9xxx Intel CPUs is not supported by the i915 drivers in the 4.19 Linux kernel used in the latest version of unRAID.  Unraid 6.8 public release candidate is coming "soon" and it, reportedly, uses a later kernel version in which the newer iGPUs are supported.

Thanks for all the replys :)

Will try and downgrade to combat this, just copy the files onto the flash drive and boot?, will all the dockers etc need to be reinstalled after the downgrade?

Nope.  Just copy over to the flash drive all the bz* files from unRAID 6.6.7 and reboot.  Everything should remain as previously configured.

I just did this myself a few days ago  6.7.2  --> 6.6.7

Again, thanks.. 6.6.7 is up... And thats stuff definitly works MUCH better! Plex working like a charm, and it can actually multitask aswell :) Lets hope the sqlite from plex holds without dieing also.

And that 6.8 will fix these issues and also add the needed support for intels 9* igpus.

CPU levels are down to the expected 5% performance instead of the 100% it was spiking at aswell
