[Support] HaveAGitGat - Tdarr: Audio/Video Library Analytics & Transcode Automation

Hey guys, how can I use Tdarr to transcode my library of audio files down from way too high quality rips? I have a ton of flac and mp3-320 files that I would like to cut down in size by converting them to mp3-192 (more than good enough for my ears and equipment). I guess I'm supposed to use something ffmpeg related, but I'm at a loss how to handle non-video files using which plugins...

Any help greatly appreciated!

you can choose one of the audio only plugins or write your own. you can filter plugins by audio only

I used to use nvidia unraid to get hardware transcoding in plex container, but now that is broken due to changes in the nvidia unraid plugin support since it's deprecated and I am waiting on Unraid 6.9 which will have the drivers baked in.

However, I'm on Unraid 6.8.3 right now, so now sure if i can get nvidia gpu acceleration working in Tdarr?    I tried to run one plugin that uses NVENC and get the error:

Cannot load libnvcuvid.so.1

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do I need to get the drivers supported into unraid to get this working (so Unraid 6.9)? Or is there a way around this in the interim?  In the docker config for Tdarr, i have this extra param specified:

--runtime=nvidia

You need the Nvidia build of unraid and you also need to add the other two lines after runtime to tell it which card

Hi guys, have there been any breaking changes in Tdarr recently? I'm running the :qsv branch and I just noticed that all my automatic transcodes of h264->hevc have been failing for at least 2 weeks now (don't ask busy at work, so no time to check my logs before), while everything had been working for several months without problems. At first, I thought it might have to do with bad input files, but running them through my separate Handbrake watch folder worked fine (also using the QSV /dev/dri device as I'm using in Tdarr). Using the same files in Tdarr produced errors, I kept getting "ERROR: avio_open2 failed, errno -2" error messages in the transcoding log. I switched to a non_qsv h265 profile that is otherwise identical, and with that transcoding works, albeit painfully slow.

tl;dr: QSV is effectively broken for me and I'm looking for a fix. :D

Any ideas?

EDIT: Problem was caused by a misconfiguration on my system, preventing Tdarr from accessing the tdarr-cache path on the SSD.

Thanks for the quick reply, you got me onto the right track for solving the problem. Turns out that when I first installed Tdarr, I created a share for the Tdarr cache (which was never really used). For some reason, this share now was set to "Use cache drive: yes" (previously no), which in consequence prevented Tdarr from using that path on the SSD directly. Setting the share back to not using the SSD fixed the problem immediately. I will remove the unnecessary share at the earliest opportunity.

Please forgive the naivety of my post/explanation I am usually the learn as I go type and been playing with unraid all day.

After finally getting my NAS connected and playing around a bit I thought I would get Tdarr going and stress test my new server.  Now I set up Tdarr and got it to read my NAS and create a list of 17200 files to process. I started with a single worker and watched it tick away and so increased it to 5 workers when I was happy, once Tdarr had gone through all my current 265 files it then got to files that actually needed transcoding... They all started failing.

^^ This was what it started doing. So after some more poking around it appeared it was HW transcoding was not working (That was the profile I chose) so..... after finding out "unraid nvidia" was no more I found nvidia-drivers, I updated Unraid to the latest beta, installed nvidia-drivers installed gpu statistics and thought I was all set to try again.

Now, for some reason Tdarr just wont do a fresh scan, I tried setting up a new library, clearing the database and checking all my paths.. Nothing seems to work. I tell it to do a fresh scan, it asks me if I am sure and after I say yes it starts, stops and completes without finding a single file.

I also noticed folder watcher was running (it was turned off...) and seems to have trouble actually getting the folder path correct as well.

Apologies for the long post, I was trying to be as detailed as possible!

Thanks in advance

Ok, so this morning I turn my server on (As I am tinkering I turn it off at night) and oddly Tdarr starts a full scan and adds all 17200 items to the health check queue and transcode queue.

I set a worker on the health check and away it goes, I notice they are still all going straight to health check error, see log extract below:

I am wondering if it is the nvidia driver thing? I added all that after Tdarr, do I need to dump the Tdarr container and re-add it? I tried editing the dicker image but could not see the nvidia fields.

Just for reference, I switched to CPU profile as mentioned and it is currently transcoding 2 files. So it is not a Tdarr issue just my settings somewhere are wrong.

its not finding the nvidia card you have all the settings in the container to pass the card through?

I may have to dump the container and start again as I do not have the options to pass through when I edit it. (I installed the nvidia drivers after Tdarr)

I did try "unmanic" and that had the nvidia fields when I went to install it. So I assume it is because Tdarr was already installed. I will as I saw redo it and see what happened.

Starting to band my head a fair bit now.. See my settings, and then the end of the log from another failed transcode, still a permission issue.

Ok, I have now removed Tdarr. I have the extra paramaters that I can add the Nvidia tag to but there is no additional fields for adding the Nvidia device id etc. I have show more settings on where it would normally be but I do not see it.

Am I missing anything obvious?

Hey guys, got a real specific/odd request could use some assistance with.

I'm downloading (legally) podcasts from a distributer that allows so as long as its for personal use to your own storage.

Now the file is video/audio but I want to use Tdarr to convert it to audio only via an extraction or other method.

Seems Tdarr is not designed to do this with all plugins and manual methods requiring video codec information at some point or even AC3 as a saving extension is not allowed, would this be impossible?

I wrote many of my own plugins which resolved this requirement.

So is this the only thing that needs to install or do I also need to install handbrake?  Also any tips on configuration, I want to make sure all my media is in .mkv format and not ISO or anything else.

Thanks

As specified by the docker material, Tdarr supports Handbrake and FFMPEG without any extra installing.

Handbrake is good for beginners but I would suggest jumping into the deepen and go with FFMPEG. Its more powerful and generally with the right configuration outputs in better quality.

However, as far as I am aware FFMPEG cannot work with ISO files as they are containers to multiple files which are not all video and in most cases are fragmented to make ripping harder for copywrite. You would need to look at Handbrake within Tdarr.

You could also depending on how many ISO files you have use BDinfo which will allow the identification of the main stream which can be placed into a watched folder by Tdarr for FFMPEG processing.

Wondering if anyone has been able to get QSV working? is there anything that needs to been done other than adding

--device=/dev/dri:/dev/dri as an extra arguement? Plex, Emby and handbrake all seem to work fine with QSV. i've tried both the community plugin Tdarr_Plugin_drdd_standardise_all_in_one with QSV set to true, as well as importing a custom preset that works in handbrake. both give the same errors. here is the section of the log that seem to have the errors:

There seems to be two issues here, one is that Intel QuickSync is supported natively with Tdarr builds.

If your having issues using the commands see examples.

You must have a compatible CPU and there is debates but I prefer HW over SW transcode.

The other issue from log is relating to protected DVD content which I wouldn't be able to elaborate on.
