SAS HDD at LSI SAS9300-8i - Read Capacity(16) failed: Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08

Featured Replies

Hi all,

today I received a new 10TB HGST HUH721010AL4200 (DC HC510 10TB, 4Kn, ISE, SAS 12Gb/s) and installed it in my Unraid system. The new SAS disk runs together with 4 other SATA disks on an LSI SAS9300-8i.
Unfortunately the Unraid system doesn't recognize the disks correctly, so I can't use them. I get the following error in the system log.

In the device information in the Unraid, the disk is displayed as follows:

The hard disk is unformatted and unpartitioned. I have already tried to run the disk on a different channel and completely alone on the controller. Unfortunately both without success.

I've attached the diagnostic files.

Did anyone have the same problem or an idea how to get the disk to run?

Many thanks in advance and many greetings,

Robert

I have the same cards, two of them, neither see my HGST He8 SAS 12 GBps 4kn drive. Tried different cables as well. I also am using unraid, however, neither the avago configuration bios utility nor SASIRCU linux utility can see the drive either. Don't think it's a problem with unraid but the controller isn't seeing these drives for me. I updated the firmware as well.

Any advice on even getting this drive seen by the controller?

Short update:

In my case, the hard drive was malfunctioning. I exchanged it and the new hard disk was immediately recognized correctly.
