Unraid Version 6.7.2, suddenly not responding/dying under smb load

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am new to unraid, not so new to NAS and Linux environments. Followed spaceinvaders guide to setting up my server.  All in all I have everything in place, dockers, cache disk, shares and plugins. Everything was running like a dream until suddenly when migrating data over I found out that the server will suddenly die / stop responding pings.

After a lot of back and forth I noticed it mostly happens when I do big data transfers (SMB) from a windows machine or sometimes while using krusader from an external drive (although less often very possible the windows smb triggered it). I thought it was my 10gb nic until I swapped to 1gb nic although it doesnt crash with it, when I do the same load. Plex stops working well (docker) and everything runs super sluggish/slow.

My hardware:

Ryzen 2700x

MSI x570 pro a board (latest bios)

32gb ram 3200

1 10gb NIC QNAP

gb NIC onboard

1050ti for VM later on

cache

1x WD blue m.2 500gb

1 QVO Samsung 1tb

array

4x4tb wd red hdd (1 parity)

Any pointers or logs I can look at? Specially since server dies I have no clue.

Regards,

It sounds like the issue on 6.7 where simultaneous reads and writes bring the system to a crawl.

You should update to 6.8.0-rc1 which fixes the issue.

Legend, will update today, test and report back.

Much appreciated the help Squid!

Yes this resolved the issue 100%. Thanks Squid! I just realised I probably cannot passthrough the GPU on a VM with this board but I will open a separate thread for that.
