replacing old USB flash drive that was corrupted

Featured Replies

I just replaced my USB flash with another one - It was just giving me bad blocks every other day

but the only back up I had was from another version 4.5.6 but with only 4 drives + parity

my current setup now uses 6 drives + parity and cache

so now when I start my server i only get the choice of :

Start will record the new disk information and bring the expanded array on-line. All new disks which have not been factory-erased will be cleared first; and, the array will be available after the clear completes. This process takes time, but the array remains protected at all times. Caution: any data on the new disk(s) will be erased! If you want to preserve the data on the new disk(s), reset the array configuration and rebuild parity instead.

I'm sure I want to do this

which I don't want since i have data on drive 5 and 6

how do I proceed?

I know I have to rebuild the parity - when I restarted,  unraid saw the parity drive was not current and I stopped it when I saw that It was missig 2 drive in that configuration back backup

thanks for the help - i'll keep the server down until I get an answer..

You'll need to type

initconfig

after logging in as "root" on the system console, or via telnet.

It will set a new initial disk configuration based on the new set of disks assigned on the devices page.

You were smart not to proceed earlier. unRAID would have cleared the other drives exactly as it was warning you about to add them to its "old" 4-disk array.

When you type

initconfig

it will prompt you to proceed.  Answer

Yes

in response.  (three letters capital "Y", lower case "es")  Anything else will be considered "no"

After typing initconfig and refreshing the web-browser, you'll see all the indicators will turn blue and thw warning message will change stating a new initial array is being defined.  There should be no warning about "clearing" drives.

Typing initconfig will immediately invalidate any prior parity calculations based on the older configuration of disks.  A full new parity calculation will occur when you subsequently "Start" the array.
