Hey All - I had an old version of macinabox running fine but wanted to upgrade OS systems - removed everything (appdata, domains, and custom_ovm files - but getting this weird state after installing OS (Big Sur or any other) - just goes back to an install window with MacOS Base System, OS Installer or Recovery DMG. Is there something I'm missing here?  If I click on any of those options it just dumps me to the installer again.

Did you try the installer.. usually it carrys on installing then reboots again. I found after then that doing a reset nvram seemed to get it to boot normally.

Has anyone worked out to safely increase the number of cpu cores?

Every time I shut the VM down and restart it, I receive the "Your computer was restarted because of a problem."

When you booted again there should be some more data on that window, you should be able to see what crashed.

I appreciate the response!  I have looked at the log, but am very out of practice and barely more educated than a novice with the more technical aspects of macOS.  Would a copy of the log pasted here be helpful or would you (or anyone) be able to guide me through analyzing the log?

I have looked online at some guides regarding examination of these types of logs.  Unfortunately, my log does not give me a suggestions as to the cause at the opening of the log as some of the guides stated may be present.  The opening line is as follows:

panic(cpu 3 caller 0xffffff800f1937e5): ""@/System/Volumes/Data/SWE/macOS/BuildRoots/15c9597e6e/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-7195.141.46/osfmk/corecrypto/cc_abort.c:50

The backtrace is somewhat foreign to me, but I do see the mention of USB a fair number of times.  I do not have any USB ports or any hardware, for that matter, being passed through to the VM.

Something else possibly of interest to note in the log is the line:  "Mac OS version:  Not yet set".  This may be nothing and completely normal, but thought I would throw it out there just in case.

Thanks in advance!

mmm I don't know, can you paste the full backtrace?

Once you reboot a window should popup, click on show details and paste all here, it should be something like this:

Hi all,

I set up a Mojave VM using macinabox, and it all works when the base installation. However, VNC is slow, so I thought I could pass through my Intel HD Graphics 530. I replaced VNC with this iGPU, but it gets stuck in boot loops. I tried adding it as a second GPU as well so I could see via VNC what was going on, and saw it just gets stuck with boot loops, saying error. Does anyone know how I can successfully passthrough my Intel HD Graphics GPU so I can make Mac screen share from my other laptops a better user experience?

Thanks

Has anyone played with docker-OSX?

This would run much better as a docker with shared resources etc.

https://hub.docker.com/r/sickcodes/docker-osx

I'm still learning how to add a custom docker

Hope to have it up and running soon on unraid

mmm I don't know, can you paste the full backtrace?

Once you reboot a window should popup, click on show details and paste all here, it should be something like this:

Well, I decided to delete this VM install, manually remove any traces of the VM install (e.g. img files, ovmf files, scripts, etc.), and then reinstall the Big Sur VM.  Everything works like a charm now!  Couldn't be happier!  Sorry for the wild goose chase, but problem was solved with a reinstall.  Thanks for your help as it was much appreciated!

Hi everyone, anybody of you have a working open core for Ventura , i tried to use the one i use for my hackintosh but is not working

@SpaceInvaderOne Hi sir! Have you made an updated video for installing Macinabox? I tried following your old video, but some things have changed it seems and every guide I find and try to follow, it seems like I always get an error. Was just curious if you had a new updated video or plan on making one? Thanks for all of your videos as well! You are a true rockstar!!! I always recommend your videos to my friends for anything regarding Unraid, and I have watched a lot of them to find out how to do certain things!

Thanks again for all you do!!

I searched quite a bit for a solution so as to not post something that was mentioned before but I had no luck.

I just stood up a Macinabox and messed it up so I wanted to remove it and start over. However, I cannot remove the VM. I know that there are steps to remove a Macinabox but I couldn't figure it out.

Thoughts?

I ran into that. I found it you edit the vm by adding some cpu cores or other things then save it. It should then let you delete it.

Hi guys,

I looked the video from the first post and did the same steps.

I didn't change anything except the logical CPUs.

Unfortunately I always get a reboot.

Do you have a hint for me where my fault is?

Thank you.

did you rerun the macinabox script after changing the VM definition with your new logical cores?

Yes, I did.

I also tried to remove everything and start from scratch.

But it is the same issue.

Here's my xml, perhaps it could be an indicator what I'm doing wrong.

Can't figure out how to get an Intel GPU to passthrough when I have a RTX 2070 GPU in the system also. Everytime I start the VM with "Intel UHD Graphics 630" selected for the Graphics card, my VM never starts or rather I don't know that it does. I have TeamViewer installed which would let me know so I can remote in, but it never lets me.

Was anyone able to get Intel UHD graphics passed through? More specifically a Intel i5-10400? Or maybe if anyone can help me figure out how to do it with some steps?

Hello has anyone gotten iservices to work using macinabox?

I am able to install and boot BigSur properly.
However, I am unable to log imessage.

I've followed this guide: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/universal/iservices.html#using-gensmbios

I'm using a macmini8,1 smbios and generated a new serial (validated does not match an existing mac)
I've updated my eth MAC to match an apple network card (updated opencore plist ROM values as well)
Confirmed my en0 shows as builtin using hackintool

The one thing I cant get to work is my nvram, setting a varable will not persist after a reboot.
Host machine is i7-8700K in a ROG STRIX Z370-E

To resolve I've tried

an emulated NVRAM: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/misc/nvram.html
But when I run the logouthook script I get this error:
image.png.7eeaff3b02ea24815842821578f63a3f.png

And on boot I get this Emulated NVRAM load failed error
image.png.649883c5d6e62701cd26b0eabfbe577f.png

Then I went back to try to fix the virtual "real" nvram with this guide, which still didnt solve my problem

https://dortania.github.io/Getting-Started-With-ACPI/Universal/nvram.html
https://elitemacx86.com/threads/how-to-enable-nvram-clover-opencore.577/

I've been at this for many many hours any help is appreciated.

I had some problems near the end of this install, with Open Configurator. I got an error message when I ran the program:

Screen-Shot-2023-02-05-at-9-23-13-PM.png

I'm not sure the right volume was there for the EFI mount, and one of the files was missing

Just want to be sure I don't gloss over anything that will trip me up here. It's a little different from Spacedinvader's video.

When  i start the VM, it starts as the apple logo, loads half way then it reboots itself, like in a loop!

eDit: it loads up to option menu where it shows macos base system, uefi and reset nvram. I press on macos base system, it loads a quarter way then errors out and resets to the option menu again!

Edit2: logs of VM shows 2023-02-10T10:14:53.445182Z qemu-system-x86_64: warning: host doesn't support requested feature: CPUID.80000001H:ECX.fma4 [bit 16]

Yeah it's surprisingly small, but same here and worked fine. Seems to be a CPU compatibility issue?

Any ideas how to fix. I have an i7 8700k CPU.

The Montery download is now forwarded to Ventura. Or that is what was happening to me.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hoping someone might be able to help. I have installed Big Sur using the video instructions and it boots up and works well with VNC.

I have been trying to setup passthrough of a 580x for the past few weeks and have had no luck but I feel like I am making progress and am likely close to making it work. Hardware is Asrock x399 Tiachi, Threadripper 1900x. IOMMU and other virtualization features are turned on in the BIOS.

I have also enabled the PCIe overide and VFIO unsafe interrupts (both). Seems to be necessary.

The GPU (video/audio) is binded to VFIO.

I can pass the graphics card through to a Windows 10 VM.

I am using the vBIOS for my card here: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/194686/dell-rx580-8192-170301

When I try to pass the 580x through to my Mac VM, it hangs on the Mac loading screen at about 25%.

My xml is below, hopefully someone knows how to fix this, I am at a bit of a loss:
