Thanks for the response, here's my XML which works fine with VNC graphics. I make sure to copy/paste both the loader/nvram section and also the qemu section back in after changing to form view to add both the GPU and GPU sound. What exactly should I be changing as the vm template and features section you've mentioned above both seem unrelated to the GPU not working?

Anyone have any luck booting with a 5700xt? I get to about halfway on the Apple logo screen with 10.15.2 and that's it.

Hi, I don't have the 5700xt so I can't test it directly.

From what I read, it seems someone had luck with the 5700xt with opencore+lilu+whatevergreen (latest releases of course).

A bug has been opened on github by the same "someone" who was not able to make the 5700xt to work with clover+lilu+whatevergreen but was able to get it to work with opencore.

So your issue may depend on your clover configuration, or not, it may depend on clover itself.

Remember that as of 1st september 2019 Acidanthera group is not testing its releases with Clover, but only with Opencore bootloader.

So my advice is to switch to opencore and test your 5700xt.

I also suggest to read both the following threads, where you will also find a base qcow2 opencore image to download:

and the latest pages here:

PS: maybe you need at least 10.15.1 for the drivers.

cobhc : I see nothing wrong with the XML. I would have done the same.
Therefore I can't help you further from there :/.

I was getting freeze on boot when not doing those steps so I thought it could be it.

Let us know if host82's post help you !

I'll only be able to test that next week when I'll get the 5700xt.

I'll see if I can come up with anything. I'll need to read up on what to do to move from Clover to OpenCore. I must admit I'm not that experienced in anything to do with OSX.

It's not so different from Clover, both are based on a config.plist file for the settings. As I wrote start with the qcow2 image you can find in the thread I reported, make a backup of your clover qcow2 image, then replace that qcow2 image with that of opencore and try to boot. Finally you can use opencore configurator, an app with a gui to setup your settings, very similar to clover configurator. Start simple, maybe without passthrough, than add your components one at a time.

That worked surprisingly. Though trying the multifunction trick to get HDMI audio to work seems to bork the VM template causing me to have to restore it. I'll keep playing with it.

Edit: HDMI Audio working fine now. Only issue I have is signing into iCloud which throws up an error about my account not being an iCloud account and the fact that the Navi reset bug still isn't working properly with Linux and OSX.

Hi All.

need a little help with a Catalina VM as i am getting to a point and then seem to be missing some steps to go any further.

So i setup the VM fine and currently have it running and I am now trying to expand the template and pass through GPU and USB hardware.

1. Clover configurator:

IS this part of the install image or is it a separate program you install in MacOS?. I found a version and installed it from the net.

I then tried watching the Sierra video on passing through hardware and can click on the mount EFI in clover and have two unmounted partitions so i tried and mount both of them and then go to the section to enable the two options to nvidia web drivers but after clicking file/save and then re opening clover neither options stick.

Also does anyone have a link for the nvidia web drivers for Catalina?

2. CPU pinning

I have a ryzen 1700X and the Catalina image seems to max out loading with only 8 cores enabled.. is this the max Catalina can handle? anything above 8 cores and all i get is a stuck apple logo screen and the OS will not load.

Thanks in advance

This is a third party app and you can use it to configure clover; you have a gui interface instead of manually editing the config.plist file.

I can run my catalina vm with 16 cores, so 8 is not the maximum value, but my cpu is different.

You should provide some clover logs to see where the problem is.

just out of interest on the main clover boot screen which option should i be choosing? i have 4 options.

The one with the operating system installed ;)

You could boot into mac os with a working configuration, then use clover configurator and set in the boot section the following boot arguments: -v, keepsyms=1 and debug=0x100

After that power off the vm, make your changes to the "non working" configuration and boot your vm: you should see some verbose output which might be useful.

Moreover, you can post your clover config.plist and xml template (AFTER REMOVING the osk value), and provide some more info about your configuration (passthrough, etc), kexts, etc.

There are no web drivers for mojave, nor catalina; this means you will not have cuda nor hardware encoding/decoding (h264/hevc), but metal will work (not for all, it will work for the following NVIDIA cards: GTX Titan (GK110), GTX Titan Black (GK110), GTX Titan Z, GTX 780/Ti, GTX 780, GTX 770, GTX 760/Ti, GT 740, GT 730, GT 720, GT 710, GTX 690, GTX 680, GTX 670, GTX 660/Ti, GTX 650/Ti, GTX 645 (Fermi), GT 640 (Kepler, GK107/208), GT 630 (Kepler, GK208), Quadro 410, Quadro K420, Quadro K600, Quadro K2000/D, Quadro K4000/D, Quadro K4200, Quadro K5000, Quadro K5200, Quadro K6000, Quadro NVS510).

Note also that you can have instability/artifacts with GT 740, GTX 660, GTX 650/Ti and GTX 645 with the GK106 core.

the fact that the Navi reset bug still isn't working properly with Linux and OSX

Try reading and applying these, if you have not tried yet:

However, for the navi a kernel patch should be required.

Look at this thread too:

Some people are working to make a patch for the navi reset bug, work is still in progress.

If you have time, please post a procedure problems and workaround.
I'll sure make a good use of it in a few days :D.
Also if you make a brucex benchmark we'll be able to flex muscles and compare.

Great docker/VM and install instructions - all works well when you follow them correctly - thanks

I was expecting (hoping) to pass through Unraid Shares as local volumes to the “MacinaBox”

In the forms view I added

3rd Unraid Share:    /mnt/user/Backup/
3rd Unraid Mount tag:    U_backup

and it generated as XML

<filesystem type='mount' accessmode='passthrough'>
      <source dir='/mnt/user/Backup/'/>
      <target dir='U_backup'/>
      <alias name='fs2'/>
      <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x05' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/>
    </filesystem>

But I can’t see the shares anywhere
(other than as Remote volumes on the unraid server)

The share has both AFP and SMB exports as secure

Am I missing something I should have done?

Hi all, first off thanks, Ed ( @SpaceInvaderOne) for this awesome video and container.  I've set up a Hackintosh before and I remember how much research and pain goes into getting these things running smoothly.  You make it look easy.

I've managed to get everything up and running just fine for the initial install and boot.  However, I am having fits trying to pass through my RX 590 (AMD) GPU.  Since I switch the graphics to the GPU I can't use VNC obviously.  The problem is splashtop sees the machine booted up but hangs at the connecting screen.

Installed catalina, followed the video exactly. I started the vm after changing the CPU count (and deleting the line from the instructions) and display got very strange. See attached.

Also, here is my xml

Would anyone be able to help me please?

I followed the video to the letter and was all working fine until I changed to 4 CPUs and 8GB RAM.

The VM starts and the splash screen before the OS boots is fine then the OS boots and the screen goes all funny and repeats itself like 5-6 times at top (screenshot attached).

things I have tried..

1. keeping the topology code as only using 4 cpus

2. removing topology code

3. changing e1000 back to virtio.

4. changed vnc graphics to cirrus. Note: although it displayed 3/4 of the screen, its was just line of white noise.

I did it all correctly.. updating the vm template then changing the xml to match but to no avail.

I also got 1 error and 1 warning from the VM log (screenshot attched).

So my xml here is back to just after changing to 4 cpus and 8gb ram and this is where im at...

Not sure if it helps.. my cpu is a Ryzen 1700.

Thanks.

Would anyone be able to help me please?

You should read the thread, the issue and its solution have been reported several time!

Tip: start reading page 16.

As far as your other question about "errors", the red line is ok, it means that you are running your vm with custom args, nothing wrong.

About the yellow lines, it means that you are passing a custom arg for the cpu which is not supported by your cpu: more into details the unsupported feature is pcid, so you can remove it from your custom args, from:

<qemu:arg value='Penryn,kvm=on,vendor=GenuineIntel,+invtsc,vmware-cpuid-freq=on,+pcid,+ssse3,+sse4.2,+popcnt,+avx,+aes,+xsave,+xsaveopt,check'/>

To:

<qemu:arg value='Penryn,kvm=on,vendor=GenuineIntel,+invtsc,vmware-cpuid-freq=on,+ssse3,+sse4.2,+popcnt,+avx,+aes,+xsave,+xsaveopt,check'/>
