upgraded to 16 port SATA card, all drives show as missing

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was running 6 x 3TB WD reds for a few years now and just installed a 19 port SATA card from Syba SI-PEX40097.

The machine boots and the card/controllers(4) are shown in Tools>System Devices as "SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd".

But none of the  drives are available in unraid and show as missing.

Unraid: Version: 6.7.2

motherboard: asrock e3c226d2i

PCIE SATA controller:  Syba SI-PEX40097

The problem is almost certainly the Marvell controller on your card.  With recent versions of the Linux kernel, Marvell controllers have been causing the problem you mentioned; drives are missing in unRAID (By the way it also happens in FreeNAS and other Linux-based NAS solutions).  LSI chipset based controllers are recommended and have no issues.  There are dozens of posts in these forums about problems with Marvell controllers and the recommended LSI chipsets.

I personally use a Dell H310 (8-port LSI 9211-8i clone) but there are other 16-drive solutions using LSI chipsets.
