November 16, 201015 yr Hi. I run my server 24/7. Just wondering if I should periodically shut it down and re-boot. If so how often? What is best practice? Ta.
November 16, 201015 yr There is no need to do that in Linux land other than its a good idea to blow out all the dust and do a general cleanliness check once in a while.
November 16, 201015 yr I shut mine down once a month and dust it out the same day I replace my home air filters... Ahh the joys of living in Arizona...
November 16, 201015 yr Linux is quite sturdy. I had one server/workstation machine that had an uptime of 2 years before I had to reboot it. Even then, I only rebooted it because a hard drive failed.
