November 16, 201015 yr I had 1 parity and 1 data disk - everything seemed to run fine. I added another data disk and I got 1 error on the parity disk. I ran a parity check and I got 5.081 errors. The WD 2TB parity drive is only a week or 2 old and precleared without any errors. I could use some help figuring out the problem. syslog-2010-11-162.zip SmartStatusWD11-16-10.txt
November 16, 201015 yr Even though the parity disk only has 465 hours on it, it already has 27 un-readable sectors pending re-allocation. 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 27 They seem to have been discovered when you did a "short" test. At this point all you can do is another parity "Check" If the "media errors" continue in the syslog, and you get more read stripe errors on disk0 (your parity disk) it is time to think of an RMA to replace the parity disk.

Thanks! I'll start another parity check and see what happens.
November 17, 201015 yr Author Ok, I ran another parity check. Still have some errors. I attached a new syslog and short smart report. Still having errors. It seems strange that I did not have these problems with the parity drive until I added the second data disk. I think I still have a week to send the WD EARS drive back to Amazon to be under the 30 day return policy. Should I be returning this Hard Drive? syslog-2010-11-17.zip SmartStatusWD11-17-102.txt
