November 2, 20196 yr Community Expert From the syslog it looks as though the disk dropped offline just before starting to generate all the read errors. That would also explain why you could not get the SMART information.
November 3, 20196 yr Author Yep it was the sata cable, entire connector snapped... thanks for the help. In other news, does anyone know how to remove a broken SATA connector from a drive?
