November 4, 20196 yr I have a Windows file server running as a VM in Unraid. I have created different accounts in it and want to share folders inside the huge main share space with different users on workstations in the network. Problem is I want to give them permissions so one can't get into the other's share. This is easily doable with NTFS formatting but not with the Unraid share. Is there a way to set this up in Windows or any other OS? File server doesn't need to be Windows, but the Windows workstations do need to be able to map the drive and access it and it needs authentication so one user can't just access another user's folder.
November 4, 20196 yr Doesn't the Private share type fit your needs? Quote Private -- no guest access at all, read/write or read-only access is set per user (closed access) Set up three users, Alice, Bob and Carol. Set up three shares Share_A, Share_B, Share_C. Make them all Private and add access as required. So for your stated purpose only give Alice read/write access to Share_A, only give Bob read/write access to Share_B, etc. I don't understand the purpose of the Windows file server VM since Unraid it itself a file server.
