PCI SATA expansion card

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Lycom PE-120 AHCI Low Profile 4 Port SATA 3 Internal PCIe Adapter card in my UnRaid server. It has worked faultlessly for the last 2 years. Now, when I try and upgrade to 6.7.x i.e. anything higher than 6.6.7 my server fails to show my array, I cannot see any drives that are attached to this card. Rolling back to 6.6.7 solves the issue and I am back up and running. Can anyone offer any advice as to what I might need to do to enable me to upgrade successfully please? Is this card not compatible with the latest UnRaid release?

Many thanks

Tim

What does Tools --> System Devices say about the controller?  I can't see where it says in any description of that card what chipset it is using.

If it is based on a Marvell chipset, this is a common problem.  Marvell chipsets are notorious for having problems under later versions of Linux.  Drives refuse to show up in unRAID if attached to a Marvell-based controller.  Rolling back to an earlier version of unRAID works, not because unRAID itself has a problem, but because earlier versions of the Linux kernel do not have the issues with Marvell controllers that current versions seem to have.

Marvell appears to not be keeping their drivers in Linux up to date with kernel changes.

If you do need to swap out the card, look for one based on an LSI chipset.  There are many posts in these forums regarding the recommended LSI chipset based cards that work with no problem.  I am using an LSI 9211-8i clone based on the SAS2008 LSI chipset.

01:00.0 SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9230 PCIe SATA 6Gb/s Controller (rev 11)

It looks like you nailed it! I will look at the otehr reply or maybe just bin the card and get a new one.

Thanks,

Tim
