DJ-BrianC
I was just thinking about a cache option that I'm surprised hasn't been done. This relates to plex and unraid in combo. Why not look at what's on deck for each user and preload the next tv episode? Maybe have an option for how many to preload. If a movie is paused then also preload it. If there's nothing on deck then move it to the array. This would greatly improve start up time and forward and back scrubbing. Quote Link to comment
John_M
That would be a feature request for Plex, wouldn't it? But isn't Plex server meant to be pretty agnostic about its storage? I'm not sure how this would work or what the advantage would be as TV episode streaming is well within the capability of even the slowest mechanical disk. If you were going to pre-load material to aid "scrubbing" you would need to pre-load it into the playback client. Quote Link to comment
DJ-BrianC
Thinking a preload into unraid cache would be a major performance boost. It probably would be more on plex side but I doubt it would scale to all platforms. Quote Link to comment
