Unable to Passthrough AMD GPU with AMD CPU

Hello

I tried to passthrough my R9 290 with Threadripper 1950x (Motherboard: Asus Prime x399-a Updated to the last BIOS) without success.

The passthrough works with SeaBIOS but not with OVMF.

Things i tried:

  • Editing the flash options adding
    • video=efifb:off
    • allow_unsafe_interrupts=1
    • vfio-pci.ids=card id, sound card id
    • vfio-stub.ids=card id, sound card id
  • Dumping the vbios and using it in the passthrough configuration

The GPU is in the first slot of the motherboard and is the only card i have installed.

The only thing that the screen does when i start the VM is turning black with no signal.

Someone can help?

Thanks

@iJumbo Did you tried to set the machine type of the VM to Q35? Some users with AMD passthrough issues had success with this.

Trying an different slot can also help or if you have an old GPU laying around use this in the first slot.

Pass through can be tricky at the best of times, so if you have something that works Is there a reason you do not want to stick with that?

Macinabox Docker produces OVMF image, i tried with SeaBios but without a success boot.
Also other images i have are all OVMF
