Video Footage Storage Build - Suggested MB and CPU?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm looking at buying the silverstonetek CS381, for my first Unraid box (Hot-swap is appealing).

I've looked at the wiki, and it seems out of date on the suggested builds?

What Micro-ATX motherboard / CPU should I look at?

I'll be just storing old video projects for archival purposes, no streaming/transcoding etc.

Looking at getting 8x 8TB drives, and setting up dual parity (so around 48TB storage)

Basically hoping to run something quiet, and low power - close to my other work machines.

I understand Intel is better for low power?

Thanks in advance!

Nick

Are you still looking for a suggestion? I am also using the CS381 and got the SUPERMICRO A2SDI-4C-HLN4F with 8 SATA ports.
If you want more ports you have to get the 8, 12 or 16core model. 10gb ethernet is available in one of the 8core versions.

I am!

I've got the CS381, empty and sat on a shelf.

Will build something in a few weeks...

Just got a SAS LSI 9211-8i card from eBay (with IT mode firmware), looking to add 4x SSD's on top of the 8x HDD I'll source.

I'll have a look at the Supermicro boards, how are you finding it?

I'm looking at a really low spec tbh, just need to run disc operations really.

Didn't find any decent blackfriday deals in the UK!

Best,

Nick
