November 18, 201015 yr Hi all, I have problem and hopefully there is a very easy solution to it. I have installed unraid and unmenu and can access the web GUI by typing in 192.168.013:8080 but when I click on any of the menu items I get http://tower:8080 not found, the web browser works with IP addresses but not actual names, can anyone help me with problem.
November 18, 201015 yr To start with //tower means navigate to the webpage at http://tower which should resolve to the IP address of your server if it is named tower and take you to the web based setup page. Typing \\tower into your browser doesn't make sense to it as using backslashes is for SMB mappings. So in Windows if you go to start/run then put in \\tower you should be able browse the shares that are stored on your server. To make it accessible as media, log into your server at http://IP_ADDRESS_OF_SERVER if name resolution is not working and click on Settings then change the server name to media. Make sure the workgroup is set to the same workgroup as your Windows box. Default used to be Workgroup but (I think) with Vista they changed it to MSHOME. If you right click on my computer then select properties, you should see your workgroup listed in the properties box. Click the apply button in the Identification box. In the Network settings box you can set the IP to a static address and there are no downsides as long as you assign it an IP address your DHCP server won't hand out to another machine. Make sure you set your gateway and DNS servers, because if you aren't using DHCP that info will not be automagically provided. Click apply in the Network settings box. Reboot the unRaid box then once it is back up reboot your Windows box. Reboots are not strictly necessary, but it's easier than the alternative description. Once the windows box comes back up try pointing your web broswer to //media or whatever you changed the name to. If name resolution is still not working you can try making the unRAID box the local master for the network by going back to the settings page and setting local master to yes, clicking apply, then rebooting both machines. Again reboots not strictly necessary, but it's easier than describing the alternative. Try //media again. If name resolution is STILL not working, go to the hosts file method mentioned in the links from mbryanr's post. If that doesn't work... Thanks Joe! more troubleshooting found that - ...http://192.168.1.108:8080 goes to the unMenu page. IIRC, I saw a post about modifing the hosts file that will make the "association" between "tower" and 192.168.1.108? Edit: Found the "hosts" reference. Still no dice, but I think I'm closer. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6915.msg67568#msg67568 Edit2: It WORKS! Thanks for the posts in that thread Here is what I did: 1. Edit lmhosts.sam file and add this line 192.168.1.108 tower 2. Go to Network Connections->, TCP/IP properties/advanced/WINS tab. Enable LMHOSTS lookup Enable Netbios Voila...it works. btw, I believe the problem I had on that laptop was because it was configured for a domain and not a workgroup.
