XML error: The PCI controller with index='0' must be model='pci-root' for this machine type, but model='pcie-root' was found instead

I played around with Machine type and Disk bus and wanted to revert the changes and now I got the error:

 

"XML error: The PCI controller with index='0' must be model='pci-root' for this machine type, but model='pcie-root' was found instead"

 

Original it was i440fx-3.1 and IDE bus.

If you didn't make a backup of the XML that worked before playing with it, just create a new VM and point it at your existing vdisk.

The solution was so simple, I guess I just didn't see it.

I'm a big fan of simple solutions. We could have tried to unpick the changes you made to the XML that you posted but it's better to let the computer do the work when it can.
