November 16, 20196 yr Purchased a WD Elements 8TB drive from Amazon and shucked it. It's a white label WD80EMAZ (i didnt take a pic but looks like the pic below) there were theories these are WD red, but also theories these are HGST drives. Plugged into the unread and detected model family as HGST He10. How accurate is this information? Where does unRaid pull this information from? If it's accurate enough then it's such a good value as it only cost like 40% of a HGST He10, only sacrificing 7200rpm. Edited November 16, 20196 yr by James Yu
November 16, 20196 yr Unraid gets the information from the disk itself. Is there a problem with it? HGST is a division of WD. Their technologies overlap.
November 17, 20196 yr Community Expert Yes, all indications are that the 8 and 10TB RED (and white label drives) are based on the HC510 (formally known as the He10), the 12TB on the HC520 and the 14TB on the HC530 but spinning at 5400rpm instead of 7200rpm, and possibly some additional differences.
