Test failing HBA card without throwing drive errors?

So I have an ASR-72045 HBA Card connected to a BPN-SAS-846A backplane in my SC846

 

I noticed that if I add a 24th three of the drives will start throwing errors, its strange. If I internally mount the drive and connect it to the MoBo its perfectly fine. I tried replacing the cable, nope. Bought a new backplane, nope still does it. Tried moving the HBA to different slots and nope still didnt work. So all thats left is the HBA card itself.

 

Im going to pick up a new card but I want to test it without making my drives go into an error state. Any advice on that? my problem with trouble shooting in Unraid is if an error is thrown the drives disabled and i have to rebuild it or do new  config/trust parity which is super annoying. Any advice?
