November 21, 201015 yr hi guys my unraid became unresponsive so i had to hard restart it (hence no syslog). when it came back online there was no automatic parity check and a drive had a red ball next to it. From what I see i cannot locate something wrong. Any suggestions?
November 21, 201015 yr If the drive has a "red" indicator one (or more) writes to it failed. It could be a cabling problem, so... 1. Stop the array. 2. Un-assign the drive on the devices page. 3. Power down the array. 4. Re-seat the cabling. 5. Power up the array. 6. Start the array with the drive un-assigned by clicking on "Start" (It will forget the model/serial number of the drive so it can be used as its own replacement) 7. Stop the array. 8. Re-assign the failed drive on the devices page. 9. Start the array once more by pressing "Start" (you might need to check the box under it to enable it)... This time the drive should be re-constructed from parity and the other data drives. The re-construction will contain the contents of the write(s) that failed, so your files should be intact. If the re-construction does not complete because of a drive failure again, then we might be able to see the syslog. (and you can replace the physical drive if it is defective)
November 22, 201015 yr Author thanx, i was just copying all the files to another drive, just to have a backup, and i am now performing the rebuild which seems to be going well... i guess, the safest (and more costly) action, would have been to get a new hd and do the rebuild there, am i right?
November 22, 201015 yr Author rebuild just finished everything seems to be working fine, hope it was just a cable thing... thanx for the help
