I'm new to the forum, contemplating moving away from my Synology DS209 with 3TB RAID1 configuration that has served me for years. I like it, but need more space and need better expandability. I'm looking for a cheap build, using second-hand HW, but still want to buy HD new I think.

 

I've got an offer on a Intel S3420GPLX motherboard and Xeon x3480 CPU with 16GB of ECC RAM for around 90 USD. It offers 6 SATA ports and the guy also want to include a Dell PCI-E SAS controller for a small amount.

 

First of all, would it work with unRAID, is it worth considering?
