I have read multiple reports of poor MOSFET quality on certain versions of the backplane not being able to support the current of newer drives. source: https://wsyntax.com/cs/killer-norco-case/ I previously had this backplane functioning with 1TB drives, fully populated, but I now wish to use it with 8TB drives, and need to understand if It will damage the drives and/or the backplane. Anyone have evidence or response from Norco (already emailed them) about which versions of the backplane are susceptible to damage?

I don't recall which backplane version I have - but mine is fully populated with 24 8tb drives and I have been able to hot swap without any damage to any drives or the backplanes. Mine use a single 4 pin molex power cable each. I know there were variants with SATA, and dual 4 pin molex prior to mine. I bought the case ~4 years ago now.
December 3, 20196 yr Author Mine has two molex'es per backplane, and a single miniSAS that addresses the whole backplane (which is really nice cause my controller has that too, so less cables)
