November 24, 201015 yr Hi, My new unraid system powers up fine and works ok all day. The following morning when i check it the system has crashed and totally locked up so cannot type on any commands on the local keyboard. So i then have to restart the pc. This happens most but not every day. I have enclosed a screen shot also the syslog after I have restarted it. I run backup exec from windows servers every night which backs up files to the unraid system. I have ran the memory test and ran the disk check for all the disks, all with no errors. I was initially running on 4.5.6 but have upgraded to 4.6 RC2 to see if it fixed it but it happens on both versions of unraid. Any ideas/help would be welcome. thanks syslog.txt
November 24, 201015 yr Usually a crash of this type indicates one of the reiser file systems (on one of your "data" disks) has some corruption. You'll probably want to use the procedure described in the wiki here to check each of your "data" disks in turn and repair any corruption. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Check_Disk_Filesystems
November 24, 201015 yr Author Hi, thanks for that. I have already run that procedure on all the data disks, and all came out with no errors. I am using an old pentium 4 board and a silicon image 4 port sata card, could it just be an unraid incompatabilty with one of those? as my next thought was to buy a new motherboad with more sata ports builtin.

Have you run a memory test? That is the most likely cause of a kernel crash, by far. The voltage, timing and clock speed must be set perfectly for your specific memory strips. Some BIOS get it right, some get it very wrong. Joe L.
November 24, 201015 yr Author yes i ran the memory test overnight, and that had no errors also. I have an unraid system at home with a newer motherboard etc and that runs with no problems at all.
November 24, 201015 yr yes i ran the memory test overnight, and that had no errors also. Clearly you are no beginner at this... (sorry if I am suggesting things you've already tried) Joe L.
November 24, 201015 yr Author Hi Joe, Any help or sugestions are welcome. I am an IT manager working with windows server etc... but i am totally a beginner when it comes to unraid and linux!
