No VM's after Cache Drive change

Featured Replies

Hi All,

after I have changed my cache drive from a 256GB SSD to an 1TB NVMe Drive, my 3 old VM's will not shown anymore, but all data is still on the drives.

So I followed this steps to achieve the change: https://wiki.unraid.net/Replace_A_Cache_Drive

Any chance to get them back?

Do you still have the 256GB intact? I suspect you may not have successfully disabled the VM service before running the mover, and your libvirt.img file didn't make the transfer.

Can you temporarily connect the 256GB back to the server? Possibly you could inspect the content and see if the file is still there.

Hi Jonathanm,

thanks for your answer. So it looks good to me so the file is there:

So the 256GB Drive is still in the server as unassigned device:

So there is also the libvirt on it.

But could this the issue that I don't see my vm's?

Yes, you didn't follow the directions exactly, and when you ran the mover that file was still in use.

To solve, you need to stop the vm service. When done correctly, there will no longer be a VM tab available in the GUI at all. Then copy the libvirt.img file from the 256GB and overwrite the one on the new 1TB. When that is done, and you enable the VM service again all your VM's should be there.
