I modelled it after this setup:

5 Drive miniBox

CPU: 2.7 GHz AMD Sempron 140

Motherboard: BIOSTAR TA785G3HD

RAM: Kingston 2 GB DDR3 1066 RAM unRAID usage, get 2 GB or more if you plan on using add-ons)

Power Supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 430W (will support up to 12 low power/green drives)

Case: Rosewill R101-P-BK

Hot Swap Hard Drive Bays: - Norco SS-500

http://www.lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware_Compatibility#Recommended_Builds

The main difference is the Motherboard.

I got the BIOSTAR TA890GXB HD because the BIOSTAR TA785G3HD wasn't available.

All help suggestions appreciated.

I am buying from newegg.ca

Looks fine to me.  The only issue I see with the replacement motherboard (and this is pretty minor) is that you'll max out at 14 drives instead of 16 if you ever choose to expand in the future since this board has no PCI x1 slot.  If you plan on sticking with a 5 drive server (or anything 14 drives or fewer), then I see no problems whatsoever.  As long as you can live with that, then I say go for it.  This should be a nice, straight-forward build.

This should be a nice, straight-forward build.

Thanks for your advice !

I'll add the mobo to the supported list if all goes well.

Great, please do.  Here's how to test it.

Thanks.

I'll follow the directions.

I am going to try 3 hard drives:

Western Digital WD15EARS Caviar Green Hard Drive - 1.5TB, 3.5", SATA-3G

Model: WD15EARS

Price:   $69.97  Tigerdirect.ca

That's fine.  Remember to install jumpers on pins 7-8 of those drives and all WD EARS drives BEFORE installing them in your server or using them for any other purpose.  I always install the jumpers immediately upon removing the drive from the packaging so that there's no chance I'll forget.

I also recommend that you preclear the drives (again, after installing jumpers) especially if you are buying all three at once.  This will help you figure out if any of these drives are prone to early death.

Easy.

CPU: 2.7 GHz AMD Sempron 140

Power Supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 430W (will support up to 12 low power/green drives)

RAM: Kingston 2 GB DDR3 1066 RAM unRAID usage, get 2 GB or more if you plan on using add-ons)

Not sure.

1) Motherboard: BIOSTAR TA785G3HD  (MicroATX  AM3)

2) Case: Rosewill R101-P-BK

3) Hot Swap Hard Drive Bays: - Norco SS-500

Options for 2)

Would this work ?

That all looks good to me.  The Ultra case should work fine.  You will have one unused 5.25" bay, so it may look a bit odd.  You could throw in a single hot swap bay and use that one for your parity and then the 5 bays in the norco cage for your data drives...
