CPU Upgrade?

Featured Replies

MOBO: supermicro X10SL7-F

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1276 v3

RAM: 32GB DDR3

My server is straining under load, despite great improvements being made after watching spaceinvader1's videos. I'd prefer not to upgrade my MOBO or RAM, but at this point I'd love to add a beefier CPU to handle my multiple dockers and heavy DL/UL activity. What would be my best Unraid-beneficial CPU upgrade available that is compatible with the current MOBO? Thanks so much!

(I'm totally fine with overkill options, at this point. Just want high performance)

With that motherboard and CPU you’re basically at the very top of performance for that 1150 socket. Any change you make to add a different CPU will be considerable cost with almost no performance increase. If you really want any noticeable performance increase, you would need to upgrade your motherboard, RAM, and CPU.

Other than PSU, do I need to worry about other hardware comparability if I upgrade MOBO, CPU, RAM? IE Sata cards, drive cages etc etc?

What would a sane and then an overkill upgrade look like for me?

Start with this from the spec sheet on the Supermicro website:

Look on the Intel website and find the processors that meet these requirements.

Then go to the passmark website and look at the performance of the various options.  You can find that here:

Good luck in your search.
