Replacing failed mainboard?

My UnRAID server has been running without any major problems for over 2 years... until today. The server must have shut down at some point and now it won't even power up. A mainboard LED keeps flashing like crazy (can't find anything in the manual) and even after disconnecting everything else and resetting the CMOS, it simply won't start.

specs:

Asus P5B-E PLUS

Intel Celeron 430

1GB PC800 RAM

550W PSU

10 samsung drives

Digitus DS-30104 PCIe Sata Controller

I still have a Gigabyte P35 DS3R lying around, is there anything I should know when replacing the mainboard? My data should still be safe, right?

If that doesn't work, maybe it's the PSU...

Your data is probably just fine.  When replacing a motherboard you need to get the drives back into the correct slot in the array before you start it.  The array will not start by itself until you do that so it's safe when booting up the first time.  It's ok that the drives are in different physical ports.  You will set them in the devices page.

There might be a problem: some gigabyte mainboards write a "Host Protected Area" to a disk, making it 1056 bytes smaller -> possible data loss and more...

Take a look at

and search for "HPA" for more detailed information.

I don't know if your P35 DS3R is using/producing HPA. I suggest that you make sure it doesn't before you take it for replacement.

Perhaps someone here knows?

I installed a new PSU and the server is starting again. unraid is also booting fine but the onboard LAN adapter isn't working. it's definitely enabled in the bios but there is no active LED and the network switch isn't getting any connection... should I just get a new NIC instead?
