can I set unRAID to use a proxy to connect to internet?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm an expat in China and I use a VPN on my regular windows computer to surf the web. I can share this VPN by creating a proxy on LAN.

I just figured out that all the trouble I had with downloading OS upgrade and plugins from my unRAID server is because unRAID connects directly to internet and some server are somehow blocked or slow down by the Great FireWall.

I just runned the test today to download the 6.8 OS upgrade : on my windows + VPN, the download of the zip file took about 30 seconds, and on the unRAID it reaches 4% after downloading for ages... and then stops due to "network issues"

So I'd like to configure my unRAID server to connect through the proxy of my VPN. How can I do that ?

Thank you

Exactly how did you use that download to upgrade your existing install?

I unzipped and paste all the bz* files on my flash drive, replacing 6.7.2 OS files.
Then, I rebooted and it was fine, except for this china censorship issue.

The "App" tab was there and available (not working really good as speed was really slow).

then after the edit of config/go file and reboot again, the tab was there. I tried it to see if the access/speed issue was solved. And it wasn't. So I revert the config/go file, reboot again, and now the tab is gone.

seems like my problem are solved :
- I tried to move back the file
"community.applications.plg" from "plugins-error/" to "plugins/", then reboot  -> guess what, reboot with GUI ok, but the interface won't open in browser, "url not found" error, and Shares won't mount in Windows.

- I restored the flash drive to OS 6.7.2 by pluging it on my windows pc and moving back the files I backed up earlier today, then copy again the bz* files from OS 6.8 zip, then reboot

-> "Apps" tab is back, but still GFW issues.

- I changed my DNS settings in unRAID settings/network to use the DNS suggested by C.A. : 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220, and tadaaaa, Apps loading fine !

Thanks all for the help anyway.
