GUI and terminal Reboot and Powerdown not working

When I click Reboot or Powerdown in Main GUI, nothing happens. 

 

When I use the command 'powerdown' in the terminal I get '/usr/local/sbin/powerdown: line 6: /sbin/init: Permission denied".

 

Both GUI and terminal Reboot/Powerdown will work only after I run in terminal 'chmod +x /sbin/init'. I have to do this every time I need to reboot or powerdown.

 

Any suggestion on how I can bring the GUI functionality back? Thanks.

    This is the same problem as your VM issue.  As suggested in the other thread, what happens if you reboot into safe mode?

    Yup thanks. Both VM execution error and Reboot/Powerdown don't work in safe mode. With all the issues I have had after the upgrade to 6.8, I decided to with a fresh install. Thanks for all the help Squid.
