Uleepera
Back a couple weeks ago (had some life issues in between) I started having some freezing issues with unraid on boot. I attributed it to a VM I'd setup with a passthru VC that was causing problems. I recently upgraded to a 3rd gen Ryzen and a 5700 XT. I've been playing around for a couple days and have been unable to get it to boot where I can get into the GUI (server isn't loading to the network) to try to fix things. I made a couple posts in various groups but didn't get anywhere so I pulled out my backup from Oct redid my USB and tossed it in. It worked and booted me into unraid. The backup was prior to the VM so that issue doesn't exist now. My first step was to upgrade to the new stable that came out since the backup. When I rebooted from the update I'm now frozen again with a screen that just says Unraid with no login gui even though I selected GUI from the boot menu. I rebooted 2 additional times to see if it was a coincidence but still the same prob So, I'm wondering the following 1. Is there a boot log anywhere so I can try to track where its breaking down? 2. Are there any known breakdowns with 3rd gen Ryzen for the new stable? 3. Anything I should be looking at that I don't seem to be thinking of? https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8bjbfczs70s9sos/AADpDQjd7EdVW2s6_dJXUYAYa?dl=0 Hardware Profile -CPU - Ryzen 9 3950x -VC - RX 5700 XT Sapphire Nitro+ -Mobo - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero X570 -Mem 64gb Corsair 4x16gb Drives: 6 Mechanical western digital drives that were all functional prior to the issue 5 were part of my array and 1 was a spare drive for the windows VM 1 NVME that is a win 10 boot drive 1 Samsung 860 SSD 1 Sandisk Ultra Fit 32GB USB bootdrive for unraid Quote Link to comment

Afterwards I gave up on getting the existing version running and figured from a time perspective I would be better off just using my backup. My backup was pre-vm so that wouldn't be an issue. I rebuilt the flash drive I think 6.7.2 and booted up. Success! Login screen. Ran through all the updates for the dockers/plugins. Upgraded to 6.8. Poof! Dead again. I'm going to rebuild my old workstation/gaming rig I was replacing with this build and test it on it over the next couple days if possible. Its running a 6700k so I want to see if that gives me any issues. Right now I suspect its Ryzen 3000 and/or RX 5700 that is breaking it and its something in the 6.8 update because I had the original 6.8 I started the post with running perfectly on a Xeon 1225 V5 with no issues, freezes, or crashes. Frank1940
Try making up a 'virgin' boot disk on a new/different flash drive and see if that will boot up. (Using a 'Trial' license so to speak.) EDIT: If that does not boot, consider making a bug report. I would suspect (at that point), it is a hardware/software problem and you won't be the only one to encounter this problem. Edited December 31, 2019 by Frank1940 Quote Link to comment
Uleepera
Ok, threw some additional time at this to try some fresh installs TLDR; I couldn't get a fresh install to work Details I used installer 1.6 and decided I'd do a little trouble shooting and start with 6.7.2 just to see if upgrading was breaking the system. Attempted boot in UEFI and Legacy. Both attempted resulted in the same unraid logo screen with no login option From there I attempted to install 6.8. Same USB, it kept giving me errors about the USB being locked but only when trying to install 6.8. All the other versions worked fine. I manually installed thru diskpart in win10. Booted again with UEFI and Legacy and again same issue with no login option. At this point I'm about at capacity with time invested. I think I'm going to put my 6700k rig back together and work the server from there for a few months till this hopefully is sorted. Edited January 1, 2020 by Uleepera Quote Link to comment
