December 31, 20196 yr Hi, I'm new to Unraid, and I'll probably get myself a pro license once I figure out how to achieve everything I wanted to use my NAS for (I'm still on trial right now). As the title of the thread suggests, I was looking for a way to use the NAS as a way to centralize all my media and productivity: it would be the most up-to-date device in my network; since I have lot of storage available, for redundancy reason I'd also want to keep a full copy of everything on the NAS on my main desktop, which is always accessible, which is almost always turned on. So I looked around and found out how crashplan went full subscription (a deal breaker for me, but I won't mind an una tantum payment for the software), and how I should look for a folder/file sync utility rather than a encrypted and compressed backup utility (like duplicati), since I want to keep my files and folder structure fully accessible from both the NAS and the desktop. But, after a little bit searching I couldn't find anything which my little knowledge on the matter deemed useful. Basically I'm looking for a utility which, from either the NAS side or the desktop side, allows me to sync the folders, either syncing the NAS on the folder on the desktop (which runs windows 10) or the opposite, and a feature which lets you choose between incremental or differential backup would be much appreciated. I could do this from the desktop side by setting up a robocopy script, but that looks like the brutal and ugly way to manage 1 over 14TB of data.
December 31, 20196 yr @anongum Have a look into "syncthing". It's a cross plattform decentralized sync tool also available in the community apps for unraid. You basically pair 2 or more clients and configure which folders to sync and thats it.
December 31, 20196 yr Author Thank you, I'll look into this. In the meanwhile I'm open to every other recommendations

Curious what solution is best and also whether the backup disk is best placed within or outside the array?
