[SOLVED] HDD Read errors - next steps?

Hey all,

 

Just got some read errors on a drive when doing a monthly parity check. I paused the check - should I just let it resume? And should I take the server offline for now, or let it still run? Device is still showing normal operation.

 

I'm assuming next steps are get a new drive, remove the old one, install the new one, and rebuild?

First steps will be to post the system diagnostics zip file (obtained via Tools -> Diagnostics) so we can see what the state of your system actually is and whether it looks like you have a disk problem or something else.

It was a disk problem, these errors can sometimes be intermittent, though never a good sign, run an extended SMART test, if it fails you should replace the disk.

Completed without error. Raw Value for Raw read error rate is 212, up from where it was before by quite a bit. So buy a new drive, but don't lose sleep over this?

It was already 212 before the test, so it's stable for now and the SMART test passed, I would give it a second chance, but keep an eye on it, any more errors and I would replace it.
