atropos333
I've never used linux before, can't figure out how to install slackware, nor would I know how to compile my own version of unraid that can run VMWare server even if I could get slackware to install. Has anyone come up with a "click to install" package with the end result that I can easily install a version of Unraid that has VMWare Server functionality? I would pay money for such a thing. Anybody selling? Link to comment
BRiT
No. The VMWare license explicitly forbids this. Link to comment
heffe2001
Does the unraid license forbid creating a Slackware distro with the unraid bits pre-installed? If not, then maybe someone could create a vmware-friendly unraid/slackware distro, then you could just install the vmware stuff after getting the main distro running.. Link to comment
BRiT
It is even prohibited to preapply the patches to the kernel that are included with the official VMWare package in your own distribution. Everything about VMWare prevents noob friendliness. Even just installing VMWare is a major hassle because they (VMWare) have not kept up to date with the current kernel versions that Slackware (13.0/13.1/13.2) uses. I looked over various install threads elsewhere and there seemed to be an insane mess about finding un-official patches that had to be made to the kernel. Yeah, for a noob good luck with that. heffe2001
I've only ever looked at ESX & the windows-based workstation versions, so I had no clue what went into it. Guess they have to make it a bit more difficult so their partners can make a bit of money setting everything up... Link to comment
