Hi,

 

I can see a couple of posts regarding this but i cant figure it out, any ideas?

Not sure what is going wrong, but have you watched the SpaceInvaderOne videos on installing Windows into a VM on Unraid?   One of them might give you a clue as to what you did that is different to the process he uses in his videos.

yeah i think i have watched all of his videos. They have been great. But i am failing at the same step every time. For me this is a deal breaker of using unraid vs going back to Hyper V or ESXi. I really need to have a windows machine.  

 

I have attached a diagnostics, if anyone can help and tell me why my windows machines are not seeing hard drives that would be great!

I have no idea why you are not able to see the virtio drivers, but you could try changing the vdisk type to SATA from virtio in the VM definition which should allow you to get the VM running without the need to install the virtio drivers during install.   

Ok tried that but still the same result. When I create the VM i can see the Vdisk img being created. but its asif the VM cant see or doesnt have access to the newly created img file. so sad! havent got much longer left on the trial and i defo need 1 Windows machine to run my CCTV software

 

No idea then am afraid.      Everyone else seems to get past this step.

 

just had a thought - what size vdisk did you create?     If the size is too small I think you can get strange error messages.

I have tried 50G 30G and 60G. I have just tried setting it up as a Windows 7 machine and i can see that it uses the older SEA Bios. I have a quite old server (circa 2011 i think) However this didnt work, same error.

 

Can anyone help pleeeeeeease!!! 

Oh well looks like i am stumped on this one. tough decision to make now, can i live with no VM's? i dont think so

Just took a look at this thread and did a compare to the xml I have for my Windows 10 VM's. One difference I see is that I am using a different (older) version of the virtio iso. (virtio-win-0.1.141-1.iso) vs (virtio-win-0.1.171-1.iso). I have 2 Windows 10 VM's running, and the latest one was created a couple of weeks ago with 0.1.141-1.iso without issue. Maybe try a different version than virtio-win-0.1.171-1.iso.

 

I only mention this because the error says to insure that the drivers are on the media.

Well, I figured this out and thought i would come back and let you know. I initially grabbed windows iso from the windows website, at the time of this post that was version 1909. When this failed to install i decided to grab an older version so i went for 1809, this installed perfectly. strange but true!
