zacburgess
Hi I have a HP Proliant Dl380E g8 it has on its back plane of 12 3.5" hard drive bays plus 2 extra sata ports on the back. They are labelled port 13 and port 14. I am after a raid controller and expander that will work. I dont know much about raid controllers. Just what I have been reading. I think I am looking at a hp h220 lsi SAS card. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142124365600 Hope someone can help so I can get my new server running Zac Quote Link to comment

zacburgess
Might be a silly question but what is the difference between h220 and h240? You mean something like this https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F401968097817 Zac Quote Link to comment

AndyToots
Hi just reading this and have a DL380e G8 with 12LFF backplane, i have a P420 running in IT Mode and it sees all the drives but the fans spin at 36% permanently. Ive read this is an issue with the 12 LFF backplane and the P420. So im wondering if you have this issue with your H240? Thanks Edited August 19, 2020 by AndyToots Quote Link to comment
zacburgess
Hi AndyToots Yeah i had a problem with my fans spinning. The noise was like a Boeing 747. I ended up modding my fans with Tmxpro mod. See the link below for more information. Now its great. I have been running it for 30+days without any problems. Cpu around 45c hard drives have been cool. https://tmxpro.fi/ Quote Link to comment
AndyToots
Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like a good solution but not sure about the longevity of it. How do you control it is it a manual thing to set the fans at a certain speed etc? Also ive read that the issue with the fans is only on the 14 LFF model not the 8 LFF i may just switch to the 8 LFF. Thanks Andy Quote Link to comment
zacburgess
You control the fans using arduino board. I used this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EWOE0UU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_z5LpFb211A6C3 I have left the fans to default as Tmxpro has been testing for some time and he thinks he's got the right setting. The only way to modify the speeds on the arduino board is to connect it to a computer. Quote Link to comment
