wsware
I'm looking for decent PCIE 3.0 x1 SATA cards to add to my system. I didn't make a very good MB choice and I only have 2 x8/x16 slots that are in use and that only leaves me 2 x1 slots. So I am wondering if there are any PCIE 3.0 x1 SATA cards out there with 2 or 4 SATA ports that might be fast enough for SSD drives. It looks like the PCIE 3.0 x1 can do 984.6 MB/s. I plan to use them only for Unassigned devices. Every thing I find is PCIE 2.0 and uses one of the Marvell chips 88SE9215,88SE9230,88SE9120,88SE9235 that searches on the forum returns issues with them. So I'm just wondering if there are options out there I am now seeing... Quote Link to comment
Vr2Io
@johnnie.black have try some new controller. But those not physically PCIe x1, if you have empty M2, you may try those M2 product. JMB582 was native x1 ( 2 port) , you may try found that. Edited January 4, 2020 by Benson Quote Link to comment
wsware
Thanks for the tip! The IO CREST 2 Port SATA III PCI-e 3.0 x1 Controller Card (Jmicro Chipset), Two SATA 3.0 might be a good option. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y92RDKH/ref=psdc_284718_t3_B07ST9CPND I don't get any hits for the JMB582 in the forum tho... wsware
Both M.2 slots are in use for my cache drives. That is a really neat item! Quote Link to comment
comanbo
I have the same problem: only 2 x PCIe 3.0 X1 slots available on my MB + 1 NVMe M.2 slot - used for the cache drive - all the other SATA ports are full - array HDDs. PCIe 16x slots are occupied by GPUs. I was thinking if I can use the 2 PCIe X1 slots with a combination of: 2 x https://www.amazon.de/MZHOU-x1-Kartenadapter-niedriger-vollständiger-Halterung/dp/B07NSVNS1T/ref=sr_1_4?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&dchild=1&keywords=PCIe+x1+nvme&qid=1612396181&quartzVehicle=16-23&replacementKeywords=pcie+nvme&sr=8-4 + 2 x https://www.amazon.de/KALEA-INFORMATIQUE-Controller-Karte-CHIPSATZ-JMB585/dp/B078875K5Q/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&dchild=1&keywords=JMB585+m2&qid=1612396230&sr=8-2 If this combination works I could expand my no. of SATA ports to 10! Did anyone try this? Or is too r/techsupportmacgyver? 🙂 Quote Link to comment

Can't avoid if only x1 slot available. With SATA connector plugin, it should over height then PCIe slot gap, you may need special SATA cable. Edited February 4, 2021 by Vr2Io 1 Quote Link to comment
wsware
I ended up wanting to also upgrade to 10gb so I ended up getting a new motherboard that had 4 x16 slots (Running at 8x each) Then got a X520-DA1 10gb card and LSI 9207-8i (HP 9205-8i) 8 port sata card. And they are working great! Quote Link to comment
comanbo
For me I decided to get this one: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07ZT31GTD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it seems to work with unraid without a problem - of course the speed is not the best, but if you are limited to PCIx1 might be a good option. Pls avoid Marvell SATA controller. Quote Link to comment
