January 5, 20206 yr Hi All, I upgraded from 6.7 to 6.8 a few days ago. Under 6.7 I had 16 drives and all used 8.8GB after the initial format. After I upgraded to 6.8 and added 4 extra drives they all use 56.6GB after the initial format. It is not like it is a problem, but I am a bit curious why that is - is there anybody with an explanation? Br, Thomas
January 5, 20206 yr Community Expert It is probably because XFS has relatively recently been upgrade to support more features going forward.
January 7, 20206 yr Finally someone else with the same issue as me. I thought I was going crazy. Anyway, this should really be stickied somewhere so that people don't get so confused. From Googling a bunch, I found that this should be expected. Take a look at the following links: https://forums.unraid.net/bug-reports/prereleases/unable-to-format-new-drives-system-locks-up-rc5-r732/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-7205&searchlight=1 https://serverfault.com/questions/983907/newly-created-xfs-filesystem-shows-78-gb-used Essentially, now formating with XFS has reflink=1 and crc=1. With reflink=1, the space used is no longer about 1GB per TB, but rather about 0.5% of your total space.
