Solid state drive to replace USB stick

Featured Replies

Is it possible to use a solid state drive to replace the USB stick to hold the system?  I would image that a drive would have a GUID ... anyone know the answer?  Thanks.

I don't think HDDs or SSDs have a GUID like flash drives do.  So you would still need to have a flash drive plugged in to hold the .key file.  However, the rest of unRAID could boot from a HDD or SSD.  See here for more info.

USB devices have a GUID as part of the USB spec. A SSD drive is not USB so no GUID.

Thanks .. related question ... I dont know Linux at all.  I want to install CrashPlan on the unRaid server I have ... I have seen the wiki post and some of the posts that describe how to do this.  Is there something that is very granular and step by step to do this?  It would help me learn how to manage files, drives etc.  Is there a way to get a full slackware implementation with unRaid?  Can that be downloaded somewhere?  I dont mind buying it.

Thanks again
