Nvidia passthrough to Ubuntu 19.10 not working, worked before

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm a bit confused and have no idea what to do anymore except trying more google searches.

I'm trying to passthrough a Nvidia gt1030 to my ubuntu vm but my screen stays black no matter what I'm doing. The VM works fine if I use VNC.

I'm also running a Windows 10 VM on my primary GPU (unraid runs in headless mode) from where I configured the Ubuntu machine

I tried so far multiple things:

- Install Nvidia driver per apt

- modify the xml file as spaceinvader one suggested (the one with multifunction and gpu + gpu sound on same bus)

- both above together

- I also tried to boot with the dumped nvidia vbios

- running everything without those above

The strange thing is, that this worked yesterday (nvidia driver + spaceinvader one's suggestions) without problems.

Anyone any idea what to do?

Thanks in regards

added vbios to tried part

Are you able to consistently boot and hard reboot (i.e. shutdown VM and then start VM) your Windows 10 VM with the GPU fine?

"Yesterday" when it worked, was Ubuntu the first VM you ran after Unraid boot?

To help with troubleshooting on your own, you can turn on Ubuntu built-in screen sharing functionality which is just VNC server. Alternatively, use a 3rd party solution like NoMachine.

Also, use Ubuntu 18.04 i.e. LTS release. 19.10 is not LTS and a lot of things have not been optimised.
