Icy Dock 3-in-2 Troubleshooting

Featured Replies

I ordered an Icy Dock 3-in-2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994052&cm_re=icy_dock_3-in-2-_-17-994-052-_-Product to go with the seagate 2tb black friday deal. I think the unit is DOA, but I want to make sure I am trying everything I should before I RMA it, especially since this is the first enclosure of this type that I have worked with. I've plugged the hdd directly into the mobo and it showed up at the bottom of the "mymain" tab, so I feel sure the hdd itself is ok. I plugged 2 good molex connectors to the back of the enclosure and have tried the same working sata port on the mobo and sata cable to each of the 3 orange sata plugs (moving the hdd to the corresponding slot each time, top to top, middle to middle, bottom to bottom). Each time nothing shows up on the "mymain" tab where I saw the drive listed before. Anything else I should try before I send this puppy back? Also, would it be safe to preclear a drive without direct cooling on it? Thanks.

ps. I'm running 4.5.6

Ok, so I guess the talk of the documentation that comes with this being lacking is warranted.... I was using the orange plugs on the back... the black ones work just fine. I feel stupid now.

No need to feel stupid unless you are disarming a bomb and cut the wrong wire.  :P
