Was there something actually wrong with the old flash?

Are you booting from a USB2 port? You should be.

  • Author

yes the flash drive failed. After i hit reboot it never came up again. I plugged it in my pc and start copying the unraid installation. In the middle of the copying it failed again but this time the drive was completely dead.

Now im booting from usb3 port and it works just fine.

Still recommend booting from USB2 port. USB3 often gives problems with disconnects for the Unraid boot flash, and USB3 speed has no benefit for the Unraid flash since it just loads the OS into RAM at boot and the OS runs in RAM.

ok thx i will keep that in mind.

i have another question. Why dit it not notice the error?

on the screenshot it says 0 errors but the flash was already gone.

Errors column for cache and flash device are currently just for show, it works for array devices.

  • Author

ok but i think it would be nice if it can send a email or so when the flash drive has read/write errors.

You can install the FCP plugin, it warns if flash goes read-only.

FCP = Fix Common Problems 😉 (FYI)
