Building a new unraid storage box, can i reuse to old drives and keep the files on them or will they get wiped if i install them once the new box is up and running? the new box will have plenty of storage for me, i was hoping it would save the time it will take to transfer the old files.

If you have valid parity drives in the array already when you add the drives, they will be erased to keep parity valid. If you add the drives BEFORE parity is added, they should be kept intact. However... the only valid filesystem on that old version of Unraid was ReiserFS, which is definitely not recommended any more. So, you really need to copy the files to the new array drives anyway.
