I am another newbie. I have my box up and running so to speak. I have done everything based on the config tutorial and I am about ready to start the preclear script. I have an WD 20EARS drive i am going to use as parity with the jumpers installed. I thought I read some where something about the head parking on these drives and adjusting the settings so the drive will have less wear in the long term? Is this something I need to be worried about at this stage of the game or later? I have my MOBO settings correct and the system boots and I have unmenu installed and I think the preclear scripts are on the thumb drive, is there anything I am over looking before I start the preclear. unmenu sees all the drives I have connects but not mounted. All of these drives are brand new. Will preclear do my cache drive as well even though I have not purchased my pro key yet? Thanks for the help.

You don't need to change any settings on the EARS drives.  After the jumper, you are good to go.

Preclear doesn't care what version of unRAID you have, it will allow you to preclear your drives regardless.  Yes, you should preclear your cache drive.
