Cannot passthrough GTX 1070 code 43

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am trying to passthrough my GTX 1070 Gaming X without success, I can see the graphic card in windows but I can not remove the code 43.

What I have tried:

  •  Install windows 10 following this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miYUGWq6l24&t=1205s
  • Passthrough gpu following this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IP-h9IKof0
  • Modifying vm xml so that the slots for the gpu and sound card are the same following this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlTVANDndpM&t=662s (min 4:50)

I can not boot in legacy mode because of my motherboard.

My specs:

  • CPU:  Intel® Core™ i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
  • RAM: 16 GiB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX
  • GPU: GTX 1070 Gaming X
  • Motherboard: Asus Maximus Hero VIII

My plan is to have a plex server and a gaming pc in the same pc, I am in trial mode and this is the only thing that is  stoping me from buying the unraid key

Please someone help me!

Thanks in advance :)

First, go to you BIOS -> Advanced -> System Agent (SA) configuration -> Graphics Configuration -> select IGFX

That should make Unraid boot with the iGPU so connect your monitor to the iGPU display output (doesn't matter which port) to verify and be 100% sure that your server is booting with the iGPU and not the GTX 1070.

Next, watch SpaceInvader One guide on youtube on how to dump vbios and dump your own vbios (with any additional changes to the header as required).

Do NOT download vbios from Techpowerup.

Now use the vbios you just dumped in your VM template and hope it works. I would recommend start from a fresh Windows install if possible.

Also if you run out of Trial and still can't get it working, you can ask LT nicely and they are usually understanding enough to give you an extension.

@testdasi just curious as to why do you suggest dumping own bios vs techpowerup one? Higher chance of success or something else?

Because there are so many similar named cards with different BIOS code. Each card maker can tweak their BIOS, sometimes even changing the code on models with the same GPU as they update manufacturing. The only BIOS guaranteed to work is the one cloned from your specific hardware.
