Moving data from a share from one hard disk to another

Featured Replies

I have a share that spans 4 disks.  I want to replace disk number 2.

Does Unraid have a method that i can have unraid not use that disk anymore and move that data over to another empty drive in the array.

So, this way when i replace disk 2 there isnt anything to rebuild because its blank.

Nothing built in but the unbalance plugin can help with this.

Unraid will still have to rebuild the disk as an empty disk is still affects parity.   Only a disk that is all zeroes does not affect parity.

Not built-in.  You can probably use the unbalance plugin though

A drive can be 100% full, or 0% full.  It still needs to rebuild, and will still take the exact same amount of time.  Rebuilds are bit for bit of what is supposed to be on the drive, with no concept of filesystem, etc.

Thanks Squid,

I was mistaken about how the rebuilds work.

Long story short, in case you are still unsure. No reason to move the data. Just rebuild the disk and the data will be on the rebuild.
