Problem with primary nic need to use secondary

Featured Replies

i am having problems with teh primary nic on my motherboard and would like to use the secondary but when i moved the cable the unraid box will not take the ip address that is was originally assigned to the box (even after a reboot). how does one make it so that eth1 is the primary nic and not eth0 because my motherboard does not have any option to disable the nic in the bios?

thanks

James

I'm pretty sure you have to disable the first one in the bios.  unRAID is hard coded to use the eth0 if I remember correctly.  In order for the second to be seen as the first you have to hide the first.

thanks i was afraid of that. i dug up my MB manual and the only way to disable thr primary nic is via jumper on the board, once i disabled the primary nic the secondary one worked fine. i guess this is fine assuming that the nics can be disabled on the MB, but if you can't it looks like you can't just throw in another nic and you would have to replace the whole MB  :(

thanks

You can, more than likely, disable the NIC in BIOS.  Once "turned off" there the PCI NIC would be recognized.
