Access server if ISP is "experiencing difficulties"?

Featured Replies

Tonight, while I'm experiencing Comcast's outage here in Chicago, I realized that I didin't know if it was possible to access the server while the internet was down. Is there a way?

Where in chicago are you? I'm on Comcast with no problem.

Should not have a problem, since you would access your server via internal network.  How is unraid connected to your device that is trying to access it?

I'm up in the Lakeview area, no internet. Apparently they're having a DNS issue, so switching to Google's DNS fixed the issue for now. The only reason I asked is that I can't seem to access the server since the outage started (doesn't show up under network, can't ping it, can't navigate to http://tower or http://10.0.1.21, which is the server's IP).

I haven't really changed any of the default settings in terms of how it's networked. Everything basically runs through our Airport extreme (cable modem -> router, router -> server, desktop PC, switch -> htpc). I would think it wouldn't be an issue, but I've been having network issues anyway so...

Is there any basic networking setup guide around here?

nevermind, it's apparently my idiotic desktop which I've just been having networking issues with anyway.
