Flash drive not mounting and unfortunately old backups, need help figuring out disks order?

Featured Replies

Before the "you should have backed up" messages come in, I understand that and obviously this is a learning lesson for me going forward. Unfortunately my backup I did was in the beginnings of the server and didn't take a fresh one so my feeling it's not worth trying to mount to.

My current situation is that I got a newly activated USB disks for Pro set up but obviously having to start over rebuilding the shares and everything. I am hoping I didn't loose my data but not wanting to try anything yet before trying myself without assistance from somewhere. I read a few forum posts about USB drives gone and people having success rebuilding. My issue is that I have 24 drives and no idea what order is with what disks for the last 6 slots... I was able to luckily find a old screenshot able to put 18 out of the 24 drives (including the 2 Parity drives) to the correct slots which I am so happy I was able to locate that. Based on me reading the forums, those last 6 disks put in the wrong slot could be ok? I know I am taking things as-is right now but still trying to locate if I had did a full screenshot of all drives in their slots. I know the order of my cache drives and it was set up as a raid0. Curious if there is any presetup to make sure it mounts to the correct raid? Taking this extremely slow and steady before rushing to start the array.

Yes, but parity 2 will not be correct. Parity 1 will correct.

One thing to double check is to see if you can copy off the contents of  config  folder/directory of the old flash drive.  That is the only folder you need to be able to boot to the previous configuration.

Not sure about your cache drive question as I run a single cache drive setup.

Hello @Frank1940, thank you for your response. I was able to find an alert email that showed the correct drive mapping. I put every drive back in the correct slots and started the array with the "parity already is valid" option. Drives include cache drives came back up with no problem and shares all returned! Going to have to fix all of the permissions and apps I lost but extremely happy with this outcome. Unraid is awesome!

I would also run a non-correcting parity check as soon as possible.  And be making those backups of the flash drive...

Yes counting my blessings and indeed running a check now. Backups have been done after fixing all of the permissions since only the share data returned.
