February 4, 20206 yr I've removed a disk after copying the contents off and i've also deselected the drive from the global shares tab (along with 3 other drives that i will also be getting rid of once i copy the data off) My question is now that a parity check has started after doing a new config, i can see all the drives being read to create the parity EXCEPT the drives that were share excluded. My worry is that when i replace those drives with larger drives to rebuild parity, the parity information will not be there? Im assuming if those drives are not being read during a parity sync, then the parity data for those drives is not being created? Highlighted drives are share excluded (but contain data which i dont want to lose when i replace the disks with larger ones and rebuild) Edited February 4, 20206 yr by sdamaged error
February 4, 20206 yr The only reason for drive(s) not being read during a parity check / build is that they are smaller than the parity drive and the system has already passed the size of the drives. Share includes / excludes never affect parity operations

That can't be, unless you're past the capacity on those disks, parity is calculated bit by bit, doesn't matter what data, filesystem or shares options are on those disks.
February 4, 20206 yr Author Thanks guys. Yes both my parity disks and all others except the share excluded drives are 14tb and the excluded drives are 8tb Puts my mind at rest. Thanks for the fast replies
